Take from me the crown of sympathy...

Aaron's best vocal performance

Discuss anything My Dying Bride-related

Postby SwanOnTheLoose » Sun Sep 16, 2007 7:19 pm

Ok there's a lot of My Dying Bride songs out there and there are certain factors that make some songs better than others. The factor I'm talking about here is Mr. Stainthorpe's best vocals on a song (don't feel you need to limit yourself to one)
Mine are:

Seer Me III : The song itself has a very dreamy feel to it but Aaron's light vocals turn it into absolute romantic nostalgia.

The Prize of Beauty: I love the shrieks, they are quite vicicous. Also he doesn't enunciate the lyrics very well, which adds to the authenticity of the emotion of the song. Because really, you worrys about diction when you're screaming at someone? :D

Note: Sorry if this was done before. I'm a noob.

All of the Sear Mes are done brilliantly in my opinion. There are countless great performances, but I would say that many of his best are on ALODK.

I don't like that much Sear ME III but his performances in the other two are somptuous. I love his death voice in Symphonaire Inferrus... and his clear voice in From Darkest Skies.
And he is also brillant in the 5 first titles of ALODK.

I'm very impressed by the high notes during 'The Blue Lotus' (you know: "So there she lays...). Those are the only ones I'm having difficulties with to reach.

Another awesome moment is the ending of of 'The Dreadfull Hours'. Very emotional and brought a tear to my eye when I first heard it.

But indeed, there are so many MDB-songs wich are carried by Aaron's voice, these are just the first examples that came to mind. That's the most important reason why I'm such a great fan of them.

I would like to know what the man himself thinks is his best vocal moment actually!

Aaron is great almost every song he performs, but I think Heroin Chic could be my favourite of all these songs. He sounds so aphatic and depressed in this song - fits perfectly on aphatic and depressing lyrics. Quite an experimental song by the way.

Oh... Frits is right... the high notes on The Blue Lotus are impressive... That last part: "A league away my death is found..." always brings tears in my eyes... and I had the chance to hear this song preformed live.... and in that tone I'd love to her: "I Cannot be Loved" for that part: "God, I want you..." Aaron's voice is great no matter what he does with it... whisper, scream, recite...

The MOST impressive moment I have ever lived was on The Dreadful Hours though... When Aaron growled that phrase: "...so young boy, my hand brings DOOM!"

Hrm...I may have to go with 'My Wine In Silence'. Some seem to consider it their most 'commercial' track, but I really love the vocals in it - a nice mix alternating between clean, death vox, and the last verse sitting somewhere in between, yet cold and menacing.

I also really like Aaron's spoken monologue in the final part of 'Catherine Blake'....I just wish there had been more of it :)

I'm sure I like every single word sang by Aaron. But my favourites are:

Prize of The Beauty (when he starts singing "she waits for me..." very emotive)

I Cannot Be Loved and almost every song from the latest album. ALODK is great in vocals, imo.

Well, he's kind of got 3 styles now so I'll break it down that way:

Favorite death vocal performance: Turn Loose the Swans

Favorite spoken-wordish performance: Cry of Mankind

Favorite singing performance: Thy Raven Wings

bonus, favorite mix performance (death and non-death vocals): The Dreadful Hours

I love the way he hits the high notes in To Remain Tombless ("from my life, a rose is grown")... his "spoken word performance" in Sear Me MCMXCIII and Black God, and everything about his voice in the Crown of Sympathy.

His growling in the last albums is marvelous: The Prize Of Beauty, She Is The Dark, My Wine In Silence, Love`s Intolerable Pain (few moments)...

The Blue Lotus shows how deep he can be..The Wreckage of my Flesh is his best growling part in my opinion...and his voice so sweet in Catherine Blake:D
