that would be interesting

yes that would indeed be interesting two covers, has for the As I Die by Paradise Lost wouldn't be as unlikely as some here would think of as for the entombed link to another band of death metal band... :?: my others songs would be bodies sex pistols and motorheads 1914... :headbang:

fellow dark lords of the underworld...hell on earth.

I think it to be nice My Dying Bride to do covers of Eleanor Rigby and Yesterday by Beatles as well as House Of The Rising Sun. A cover of Eleanor Rigby would be probably better than Pain's version - more dark, melancholic and full of tragedy, also I think a cover of House Of The Rising Sun would be better than Sentenced version. :) A cover of Yesterday with violin and some heavy guitar riffs may also be great. :)

Would be fascinating to see them attempt more mainstream covers, such as "Falling Slowly" by Glen Hansard and Marketa Irglova. Aaron covering the male voice and Lucie Roche (from "Evinta") doing the female one. Shaun could add some interesting violin parts, I think! OK, they've done Portishead and "Scarborough Fair" but this one would push the envelope further, I'd say. Something very refreshing and inspiringly eclectic about the songs they've covered, I'd love to see them do more! Even the Swans cover, where Aaron's voice is very similar to Michael Gira's, seriously impressed me, and I'm a huge fan of Swans. Tough to cover their material well, IMHO.

I was thinking about this thread and came to the following, highly personal conclusion which will never happen for obvious reasons:

I'd love an album where My DyING BRIDE played songs by bands who were obviously influenced by them in the first place, because there are so many great doom/death metal songs that came in the wake of My DyING BRIDE and the only thing lacking really is that, well, those bands great as they may be aren't My DyING BRIDE.
So here's an imaginary album, My Dying Bride Covers Their Would-Be-Usurpers and I would love love lovety love to hear My DyING BRIDE play..for they are beautiful and dark and sad but not quite there without Aaron, Andrew etc.

Katatonia: "12"
(that opening melody is to kill for; and is basically a MDB part MDB never wrote).

Celestial Season: "Above Azure Oceans"
(there's even a violin! and yes, again, this could have been a MDB song. Wish it was.)

Mourning Beloveth: "The Mountains are Mine"

Lacrimas Profundere: "Solitude, Silence"
(Imagine this with Aaron's soaring clean vocals instead..oh man what should be.. :))

Anathema: "They (Will Always) Die"
('Nuff said.)

Draconian: "Daylight Misery"
(This opening is *so* MDB. It should belong to them..all these bands doing talky bits and none sound so genuine and satisfying as MDB can do it..)

November's Doom: "Into Night's Requiem Infernal"
(Like the others I believe this one would be absolutely amazing in MDB's clothes)

October Tide: "12 Days of Rain"
(Basically old Katatonia #2, making it MDB #3)

Swallow the Sun: "Through Her Silvery Body"
(Another great song that I wish I could hear MDB play. A man can dream!)

Saturnus: "Litany in Rain"
(Perhaps the least MDB-ish..but holy buttcake, this is one glorious piece of melodic doom; imagine the lead guitar replaced with MDB's violins and those vocals replaced with Aaron's..)

Forest Stream: "Snowfall"
(The atmosphere...just missing the real doom/death band..though this one perhaps comes the closest vocal-wise?)

The 11th Hour: "Rain On Me"
(This song might just be great enough as it is...but still. Imagine MDB playing it.)

Forest of Shadows: "Wish"

Paradigma: "Best Regards"
(Probably the most unusual and obscure choice..I knew these people and even played support for them with my own old band.. but for a moment imagine this as MDB, with Aaron replacing the (awesome) female vocals in addition to doing his sinister grunts..)

And as the grand finale, a song that always tugs at my heart strings, and which I am not sure MDB could actually do justice..or maybe they's a simple song really but so incredibly emotionally laden:

Warning: "Faces"
( not. Or maybe? I dunno..)
I breed in chaotic frenzy!
