Favourite My Dying Bride guitar riff?

Discuss anything My Dying Bride-related

Postby The Last Lonely Man » Tue Jan 06, 2009 8:43 pm

I couldnt find any threads on this, so hopefully its ok...

What is your all time favourite My Dying Bride guitar riff? It doesnt need to be the songs main riff, any guitar riff featured in song, feel free to write the track time if you wish to further illustrate, or lyrics surrounded said riff etc...

My two favourites have to be;

The Blood, The Wine The Roses - 4:38 to 5:00
I just cant stop from headbanging, its pure genius!

She is the Dark - 2:09 to 3:13
I just cant explain it, erm lets just say "the shit hits the fan"! haha, its heavy as hell, and a great return to form after 34.788 i reckon

She Is The Dark : 2:09 - 3:13 ;
BLACK VOYAGE: 7:10 - 7:51
The Prize Of Beauty : 1:01 - 2:55 ;
The Raven And The Rose 2:19 - 2:31
Under your Wings And Into Your Arms: 2:21 - 2:33 ;
The Whore The Cook And THe Mother : 0:09 - 1:08 ...
and probably many more... but to these i know i always simply lose control :D

I wholeheartedly agree with that She Is The Dark riff.

The Cry Of Mankind is also an obvious choice (all riffs actually), as well as the opening riff from The Thrash Of Naked Limbs and the main motif that links all versions of Sear Me.

I agree, a great guitar line, and instantly recognisable (cry, and sear me), they are kind of like mdb's "paranoid", or "smoke on the water" :-)

So, so difficult to choose :? . Really, to like MDB is to like his guitars. In almost all the songs, you can find very good guitar riffs. That's one of the main reason I like them so much :smug:
Aaanyway, I'll go for those ones:

1 - The Cry Of Manking - ( During all the song, really )
2 - My Hope The Destroyer - (especially from 4:10 till the end)
3 - Here In The throat - ( All the songs as well)
4 - A Doomed Lover - (especially from 4:35 till the end. It goes so much crescendo, I really worship it!)
5 - Into the Lake of Ghosts (the beginning is particularly awesome)

And many, many others of course.
Whispering my given name.
Unfurls the fingers of flame.
Nameless sons and daughters of sin.
Step forward when you hear the bells ring.

The opening/main riff of "The Whore, the Cook and the Mother", supported by the rhythm section's drive, is pretty awesome.

I like My Dying Bride's guitar harmonies more than their riffs though, such as "The Isis Script", I guess you can call it a riff but is it really a riff? I don't know :P

That would be that riff in Into The Lake of Ghosts, after "My sins I will forget. I am nothing again."

Cry Of Mankind - 4:18
From Darkest Skies - 3:47
The Raven and The Rose - 3:37 till the end.
The Crown Of Sympathy - 4:14 - 5:12
Grace Unhearing - 3:37 - 3:55
The Wreckage Of My Flesh - 2:27 - till end
My Wine In Silence - 2:43 - 3:28

I love them all.
It would be also nice to point favorite keyboard parts since all of them are awesome.
"Do what Thou Wilt" - A.C.

I'm not good with times so I'll describe as best as possible my fave riffs:
the riff during the "verses" of Under My Wings....
The riff during the "verses" of My Hope, The Destroyer
Andrew's part in Cry of Mankind
That main riff/guitar line in Into the Lake of Ghosts
The "main" riff in Sear Me III

I beleieve that almost everyone understands if I said that I like many but the riffs that get me up - out of - anything are:

Turn Loose Th Swans: 3:39 -5:28 right on closing the riff with half-note down. "including the drum notes"

Songless Bird: 4:49 - 5:46

The Dark Caress: 3:52 - 5:12

I think I shouldn't have posted in here since it is going to underetsimate the rest of the great riffs!

so all of them are great but thank you "The Last Lonely Man" for this Topic :)
