This will probably sound crazy, but I'd love to hear My Dying Bride to an interpretation of Skinny Puppy's Worlock track.

Like otherpeople said, a Nick Cave song would be cool, my choice would be The Ship Song, but Where The Wild Roses Grow would be cool too. Maybe they could get Sarah Jezebel Deva from Angtoria/Cradle of Filth to sing the female part, since Aaron contributed vocals to her album.

A song from Anathema would be nice, but one from Alt. 4.or a later album..i think they'd do a great job of "regret" or "re-connect"

The Animals - House Of The Rising Sun (totally rerranged)

Depeche Mode - Enjoy The Silence

Mark Lanegan - One Way Street (here the violin would work good)

"Wicked game" -Good idea! HIM messed it up, so mdb could make a good version of it again.. to restore the song's honour or so. :)

As for "Hurt".. is that the one by Johnny Cash or is it a different song?

Johnny Cash covered the song that Nine Inch Nails wrote.

Cool, I thought it was the other way round. Don't know the original version of the song but I really like Johnny Cash's.

Hell-o Aaron! That's what's really cool in this forum: to read also posts from the band! Anyway, I have been thinking about this song lately, it would be perfect! Still HIM got into it with another (pretty) chick this summer, but I believe it would be perfect, if done in the MDB way!

I'd see Pagan Wish from Lake of Tears a potentialy awesome cover for MDB... The two guitars would sound great in a doomy mood and Aaron's voice would be just fine :)

I totally agree with all the people suggesting non-metal songs to be covered. Cover metalsongs as a metalband isn't really a challenge isn't it? It's fun during rehearsal, but find riffs matching a non metalsong and maybe addapt some of the vocals takes a lot more creativity.

But some songs you just don't cover. An example I've recently heard was a techno song containing the voice of Fredy Mercury singing Queen's 'dont stop me now'. Songs from the famous artists shouldn't be touched!

Yesterday and Eleanor Rigby by The Beatles - Aaron's clean deep melancholic vocals would fit perfectly both especially the second one. Sure Eleanor Rigby by MDB will be better than for example Pain's version. :beerchug: :) :devilsign: Both songs should have real violin parts. :violin:

Regarding the quality of their last album, I think they should better try without any femal vocalist, it kinda overtook the rest of the production imo...

Yet, Elysian Night and The Quiet Storm were pretty good songs... Why did she leave by the way ?

Lisa left due to day job commitment and having to look after her child. http://www.draconian.se/main.php I think that Draconian can be great without a female vocalist only it will be even better if Anders Jacobsson uses at least some clean not spoken vocals. :)

Yeah, that's why here is a list of covers ideas:

- R. Kelly: "I believe I can Fly"
- JLO: "Jenny From the Block"
- Justin Timberlake: "Cry Me A River"
- Elton John: "Candle In The Wind"
- Bob Marley (oh actually, that would work pretty well^^) > Redemption Song
- The Cure: "Boys Don't Cry"
- Franz Ferdinand: "Take Me Out"
- Pink Floyd: "The Wall"
- Ryan Adams "Come Pick Me Up"
- ...

I agree with the "No younger doom bands idea," and stick to that 100%. But, on the other hand, if anyone could make Justin Timberlake Doom, it'd be MDB.

Sunday, bloody Sunday! I'd better have not logged in today coz I was actually in a good mood...

First of all, thanks for knowing what I want (actually, I don't want anything). If you're not sensible to irony well... I'm also not fond of the new blood in Doom Metal and mainly listen to old Doom / death metal band.
Regarding Draconian, I don't think they're new, are they ?

Secondly, if you think I'm just the narrow-minded type of guy who only likes one genre of music, I think this is far disrespectful, as I wouldn't use such arrogance and scorn towards you.

Thirdly, I was just emphasizing the fact that a cover has to mean something. When My Dying Bride covered Scarborough Fair, it meant something. I'm not sure that covering something outside the global and general athmosphere generally brought by MDB would be a nice idea, just for the sake of being untrivial.

Finally, I would tend to agree with your comment on the Floyds. I would go further saying for me, they are one of the forerunners of Doom Metal, as Black Sabbath was for instance.

That's where you were wrong.

Anyhow, on message boards, letters, and texts in general, miscommunication is a common problem, it's so hard to judge what people mean when reading what they say instead of just directly talking to them. No Harm Intended, DarkLink.

Actually, your answer to those "plain silly suggestions" was quite aggressive (read yourself). So the harm is indeed done. Miscommunication is a common problem ? Your certainly are very right but then why taking it personally and answering with such scorn ? You could also have problem to understand but could have reacted nicely and with humour. But you prefered confrontation, that is your choice.

If I have chosen to write down such suggestions of covers, it was:

- 1/ To be ironical and imagining how funny it would be to have MDB remixing JLO, for instance.
- 2/ To have everyone thinks about what a cover really means and in what purpose it is generally done.

And that's it.

Regarding Pink Floyds again, it is true that when you listen to them carefully, you'll find especially in the guitar riffs, trace of some heady and athmospherical ambiance. And I agree also with Pigs (three different ones) being one of the nearest song from the Doom genre they created indeed.

"The global and generall athmosphere brought" I mentionned is not necesserily Metal. My Dying Bride has produced over the years many songs that wouldn't be linked to Metal at first (i.e: For My Fallen Angel).

Nevertheless, their is a general bleak, gloomy, dark, sombre athmosphere existing over their work. And in MY OWN HUMBLE opinion, some ideas of covers mentionned in this thread are as ridiculous as JLO.

Who can seriously believe I would like MDB to cover JLO, come on... This discussion is going nowhere...

MODERATOR please ! :D

Anyway, what about having My Dying Bride covering one of Metallica song ? I remember Hamish said once they played in the same gig some night in Greece.

I'll go for My Friend of Misery on the Black album. What a great song !

I think it to be nice My Dying Bride to do covers of Eleanor Rigby and Yesterday by Beatles as well as House Of The Rising Sun. A cover of Eleanor Rigby would be probably better than Pain's version - more dark, melancholic and full of tragedy, also I think a cover of House Of The Rising Sun would be better than Sentenced version. :) A cover of Yesterday with violin and some heavy guitar riffs may also be great. :)

I was thinking about this thread and came to the following, highly personal conclusion which will never happen for obvious reasons:

I'd love an album where My DyING BRIDE played songs by bands who were obviously influenced by them in the first place, because there are so many great doom/death metal songs that came in the wake of My DyING BRIDE and the only thing lacking really is that, well, those bands great as they may be aren't My DyING BRIDE.
So here's an imaginary album, My Dying Bride Covers Their Would-Be-Usurpers and I would love love lovety love to hear My DyING BRIDE play..for they are beautiful and dark and sad but not quite there without Aaron, Andrew etc.

Katatonia: "12"
(that opening melody is to kill for; and is basically a MDB part MDB never wrote).
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fKdqERiUZzU

Celestial Season: "Above Azure Oceans"
(there's even a violin! and yes, again, this could have been a MDB song. Wish it was.)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ToemhIiObn8

Mourning Beloveth: "The Mountains are Mine"
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gQD4UMSb0ww

Lacrimas Profundere: "Solitude, Silence"
(Imagine this with Aaron's soaring clean vocals instead..oh man what should be.. :))
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=31CcpR1o9bs

Anathema: "They (Will Always) Die"
('Nuff said.)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5gwvZHtN0MY

Draconian: "Daylight Misery"
(This opening is *so* MDB. It should belong to them..all these bands doing talky bits and none sound so genuine and satisfying as MDB can do it..)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ADnHKkv9TQM

November's Doom: "Into Night's Requiem Infernal"
(Like the others I believe this one would be absolutely amazing in MDB's clothes)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kYKOnvwhSGU

October Tide: "12 Days of Rain"
(Basically old Katatonia #2, making it MDB #3)

Swallow the Sun: "Through Her Silvery Body"
(Another great song that I wish I could hear MDB play. A man can dream!)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u8S-iIiF1sw

Saturnus: "Litany in Rain"
(Perhaps the least MDB-ish..but holy buttcake, this is one glorious piece of melodic doom; imagine the lead guitar replaced with MDB's violins and those vocals replaced with Aaron's..)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C9NmF3EHMOc

Forest Stream: "Snowfall"
(The atmosphere...just missing the real doom/death band..though this one perhaps comes the closest vocal-wise?)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dB-ek2mUJoc

The 11th Hour: "Rain On Me"
(This song might just be great enough as it is...but still. Imagine MDB playing it.)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zd6pN1L9PR8

Forest of Shadows: "Wish"
(Yeah.)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ebt0g8kxPV0

Paradigma: "Best Regards"
(Probably the most unusual and obscure choice..I knew these people and even played support for them with my own old band.. but for a moment imagine this as MDB, with Aaron replacing the (awesome) female vocals in addition to doing his sinister grunts..)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m6CXAZFZUnY

And as the grand finale, a song that always tugs at my heart strings, and which I am not sure MDB could actually do justice..or maybe they could..it's a simple song really but so incredibly emotionally laden:

Warning: "Faces"
(Yeah..no..maybe not. Or maybe? I dunno..)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sFHL76lIo7k
I breed in chaotic frenzy!
