MDB Tribute - NEW THREAD!

Discuss anything My Dying Bride-related

Postby Lychfowel » Mon Jun 01, 2015 9:03 am

Hi all, I would very much like to be a part of this, as I'm hopelessly devoted to My Dying Bride as well (as I'm sure you've guessed).
I've had a few bands but we never did a MDB cover because I was the only one really into it (though the influence did of course affect our music). However I've written countless lyrics and most of them wouldn't have existed without Aaron paving the way in terms of writing melancholy dark lyrics with (anti)religious overtones, so if at all possible I could contribute with a few pieces of "poetry" that could adorn ... I don't know, the insides of a booklet? Alternatively I could record readings, and/or read them over one of my acoustic compositions (I have a few piano songs that stylistically would be akin to "Sear Me MCMXCIII" which I could use with lyrics).. In the end all I want is to be a part of this tribute :)

Yes! Do it! I say record yourself reading your poetry over one of your compositions

All right, thanks, I'll rummage through my stuff and see what I've got, and maybe inspiration strikes for something new as well.

This project seems to go very well, which is very nice to see. I am eager to see the result!

Is he ? I thought that was someone called Dorcha doing the job.

Amazing so many bands want to join-in, can't wait to hear the beautiful result. :devilsign:

I checked 1st post and browsed through the rest of the topic but couldn't find the info.

Quick question regarding this great project: who will be judging which band will actually make the 8-songs CD ? MDB themselves ?

I think you should think of getting the panel idea back on track (and I do not have any desire to be part of it).

One simple reason comes to my mind: you'll also have to handle with the disappointment of band's who put their sweat in this project but that were not selected.

Also, the idea has been promoted on Facebook so I guess the result will also be. People who are contributing from all around the world should be aware that they might not be part of the 8-track cd. And that means putting the rules clearly on PAGE 1 of this topic.

A bit like what you wrote there Matt but with all the information. So I propose you guys add that Aylin Black and My Sanity Does Fly will be the only two judges for selecting the songs OR that you decided to have a panel of fans voting for more equality.

More fans deciding = More credibily and fairness

And it is simply doable: ask 10 regular forum members to listen and classify all the songs bands kindly send you from 1 to the end. Then gather all 10 results and check which bands are the most oftenly quoted as favourite. Then do the damn chart.

As it is a forum project that has been decided a long time ago, I guess it will be FAIR to put 10 regular visitors of this place as panel judges.

Here is a quick list of people I think should be included as members of the panel (obviously if MATT and Aylin Black decide you'd like to have fellow forumers to be alongside to make a FAIR decision:

- Lycaon
- Muskurov
- Aylin Black
- My Sanity Does Fly
- Lychowel
- For My Fallen Angel
- Danhod
- Podgie
- Psychomatiking

More can be added and / or substitute but I think that is a reasonable choice.

Thanks for putting so much effort in it, I'm sure it is actually a lot of sweat and pain to do it.

When you said: ”We did discuss this with other people... asking them to be on the board or asking for their opinion... and this was the decision the also vouched for.”, may i ask with whom you actually discuss it ?

And surely this is going to be great !

Heaven Shall Burn's cover is good, but I think that extreme vocals do not fit the song as well as the quite high voice of Solstafir's singer - a deep and dramatic voice like Aaron's is needed for the song. :)
