I used to be very deep in Black Metal, but I'm not recently, but I guess that it's really hard to mention only three albums. Let my try...

1. Gorgoroth - Antichrist
2. Satyricon - Nemesis Divina
3. Dark Funeral - Sectets of the Black Arts

cheers ;)

I've heard a lot of BM songs but not too many full albums.
So here's my list:

Mayhem - De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas
Burzum - Det Som En Gang Var
Lord Belial - Kiss the Goat

Thats about all full BM albums I've heard

Deathspell Omega - Si Monumentum Requires, Circumspice
Burzum - Hyvis Lysett Tar Oss
Mayhem - De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas

This was a hard decision for me, but these three first come to mind.

World Ov Worms!!! Yes, I forgot all about that album. How could I? Shame on me.

How about some Limbonic Art? Some of the best symphonic black metal, ever. I can't wait for a new album from them.

It is certainly De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas of Mayhem.

@sparowe

In Abhorrence Dementia. That's a great album to start with.

Their last album before their break-up was The Ultimate Death Worship and that one is good, too, but to get a good start, check out the aforementioned album.

...and you're a lucky bastard for owning that world ov worms tee.

I want it.

Nice! Glad to see another Deathspell fan. This album is everything I love about black metal. Sounds truly evil, the lyrics are intelligent and well thought-out, and the whole packaging and layout is great. Overall, probably my favorite black metal band. Plus, this album is a feast at a total of 77 minutes long. Yes!!!

There is no vain song in this album. I think Drink the Devil's Blood is a Black Metal march than Satyricon's Mother North. I listened last EP Kénôse and I compare hymn atmosphere may be I'm not right but it is according to me. Everytime I'm following Deathspell Omega.

The Kénôse EP is another fine example of well-crafted black metal. Not many bands can uphold the same level of atmosphere and true conviction as Deathspell can. I eagerly wait for a new opus from them.

Mikko Aspa's side project Clandestine Blaze and Deathspell Omega haven't released any album. I think they are very busy and haven't got any time for making music.

I know Keep of Kalessin. I made an interview with Obsidian Claw for my web magazine. Keep of Kalessin has hard melodic guitar riffs and they have Vegard Larsen like a good drummer. I was watch in live show a drum solo from Larsen. He is very strong drummer. Obsidian Claw is a live member in Satyricon and he is successful guitarist. I want to talk about Thebon (vokill) his voice is harsh and harmonius Keep of Kalessin's kind of music.
I think Keep of Kalessin's music sound is modern black metal sound. I suppose in the future Keep of Kalessin will be great band.
The Black Uncharted is a ultra magnificent song from Armada album. Go crazy over classic guitar melody.

I didn't like Armada much. The songs just didn't do much for me.

Anyone hear Jotunspor? It features the ex-drummer of Gorgoroth (Twilight of the Idols album). Actually, I think it's his band, but it's great. Dark atmosphere with some ambient segments thrown in. Very good.

I don't know so much about black metal but my favourite album is by far Storm of The Light's Bane by Dissection. A masterpiece imo.

And no one spoke about Anorexia Nervosa; it surely one of the best black metal band I ever heard (not only because they are French :D )

Ok, this is a hard question. Black metal is by far the best genre and it got so many great bands, but the three cd's I think is best are:

1. Valhalla - Winterbastard

2. Goatmoon - Finnish Steel Storm

3. Kristallnacht - Warspirit (EP)

Xasthur - Nocturnal Poisoning
Enslaved - Monumension / Isa
Ne Obliviscaris - The Aurora Veil

1. Enthrone Darkness Triumphant - Dimmu Borgir
2. Anthems to the Welkin at Dusk- Emperor
3. Nemesis Divina - Satyricon

* So tempted to put Satyricon's Volcano as #3 there, I just love it ... but Nemesis Divina is such a classic.

1982 - Venom - Black Metal. I doubt if most todays black metallers were out of nappies at that stage.
Venom ARE black metal, the rest just stole the term for what is now called black metal.

Wow, really? Blakkheim's (of Katatonia/Bloodbath fame) black metal project, featuring the great Dan Swanö. You should check them out man!

At the Heart of Winter is a fantastic black metal record, I actually listened to it for the first time in way too long the other day and really enjoyed it. The sound is the epitome of grim, frostbitten black metal. Track after track it's packed full of great riff, after great riff, after great riff.. yet still manages to maintain a huge amount of atmosphere. Fucking epic artwork too!

As for Burzum, Hvis Lyset Tar Oss will always be my favourite.

Some people may consider this controversial, but there wouldn't be one Dimmu album in my top 50 black metal albums! :P

Just 50? I think a hundred (maybe more) is a better number.

Okay well, there wouldn't be one Dimmu album in my top 100 black metal albums! :P

Actually, they're not that bad. I don't want to come accross harsh.. I just believe there are many, many better black metal bands out there.

I think I prefer the list mortuus posted above.

De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas, Under the Sign of the Black Mark and In the Nightside Eclipse are all classic black metal records. I think In the Nightside Eclipse was the album which got me into black metal..

If you're interested in doom influenced black metal I'd recommend checking out Bethlehem, Forgotten Tomb and Barathrum. Might be worth you checking out Gallhammer too, though I don't really like them :P

At the risk of having replied before with three entirely different suggestions...

TAAKE Hordalands Doedskvad
DISSECTION Storm of the Light's Bane
EMPEROR In the Nightside Eclipse

.. but there at probably at least thirty other eligible albums for this brutally short list
